California data-center laws set water and electricity measures

Governor Gavin Newsom signed seven California data-center bills on September 21. The package includes AB 2469, which conditions local approval of certain new or expanded data centers on water-supply information, projected use and efficiency measures, and—starting in 2028—a water-scarcity plan. Why it matters: AI capacity is also an infrastructure and permitting question. For builders and buyers planning in California, the relevant change is not a model capability claim: resource disclosures and project-funded water infrastructure are now part of the policy surface to track.
